Printing Tips & Support

At ColourTime we deal with many thousands of customers, so we know that the whole idea of printing can be very enigmatic and difficult for the average person to understand. It's certainly more complicated than choosing the right colour of paper! That's why we at ColourTime want to make information about printing as accessible as possible.

Preparing a file to print correctly is a good thing to learn, and while we can certainly do all the work for you, it is important as a designer and simply rewarding as a non-designer to understand the basics of setting up a file correctly. As a designer, it will help you cut down on time spent back and forth with us as we attempt to correct typos, replace missing fonts or photos, touch up images with poor resulotion, build a bleed for an image that has none or attempt to vectorize low-quality logos pulled off of web sites that were never intended for print.

When the designer or customer learns how to avoid these problems, there is less confusion down the line and ultimately a better looking printed product. Here we have included some printing tips about how to create a file in various programs, how to save a file and how to scan images. In our Software Downloads section we have links to various free and very affordable software programs that help you upload large files- first by either zipping or stuffing them and then by using a FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program which ensures a safe arrival of very large files. Good luck and good learning!
